<br />
So for my 21st birthday (remember this is January, ha yeah it's been awhile) I woke up bright and early, I think about 5:00 am actually, to be a responsible student and finish my reading for my humanities class. After I finished that I got ready to go to class and trekked a mile to my first class at 8 am. I was in classes straight through until 1:00 at which time I spent the next couple of hours hurriedly trying to finish up the last of my grad school applications which were due Feb 1st. Well I had originally planned to get all of my applications done during Christmas break so I wouldn't have to worry about them after I came back from my cruise and had a ton of work to catch up on for school, ha oh well yeah that didn't quite happen the way I had hoped and planned. It didn't help that the night before when I was just putting the finishing touches on my letters of intent my sad little lap top died and I wasn't able to revive it. It was a good thing I had saved most of my grad school stuff on a flash drive, but before it died I didn't get a chance to save some of the changes I made on my letter of intent I was working on. So sadly I had to try my hardest to remember the changes I had made to my letter so that I could get it finished and in the mail so that it would reach the graduate department on time. Thankfully I got everything in the mail and was able to finish my assignment for my next class at 3:30.<br />
<br />
My roommates had told me that once I got home that they were taking me somewhere for my birthday and to not make any plans WHATSOEVER for that evening. I'm not going to lie I was rather excited to do something that wasn't related to work, school, or grad school. So when I got home my amazing roommates had totally decked out the apartment in streamers, balloons, and a Happy Birthday sign. They refused to tell me where we were going or what we were doing for my birthday, so I had to just wait patiently as we drove to our destination. In my mind I had pictured the typical birthday out with the roommates dinner, maybe a movie and then possibly a cake which I was totally fine with. Well I have to admit I was rather surprised when we pulled up in front of Chuck E Cheese.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jLuPNEhV40o/T5hVnLJi70I/AAAAAAAAAR8/1ugiCECHXws/s1600/419339_10150629844523783_607283782_11247817_2146172659_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jLuPNEhV40o/T5hVnLJi70I/AAAAAAAAAR8/1ugiCECHXws/s320/419339_10150629844523783_607283782_11247817_2146172659_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Ha only these two would have come up with an idea like this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SrCTT8BgGPQ/T5hVpX-SnBI/AAAAAAAAASU/Mg7RH-ymReQ/s1600/432263_10150629846283783_607283782_11247826_1946046660_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SrCTT8BgGPQ/T5hVpX-SnBI/AAAAAAAAASU/Mg7RH-ymReQ/s320/432263_10150629846283783_607283782_11247826_1946046660_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
They figured that most people celebrate adulthood on their 21st birthday, well instead they decided it would be fun to celebrate my youth and remind me that not matter how old I get it's ok to act like a kid.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4TLJCHFP2qU/T5hVn-Xn1WI/AAAAAAAAASE/h4kbATVOfcQ/s1600/424246_10150629848488783_607283782_11247842_1583385858_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4TLJCHFP2qU/T5hVn-Xn1WI/AAAAAAAAASE/h4kbATVOfcQ/s320/424246_10150629848488783_607283782_11247842_1583385858_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We ordered this gigantic pizza (which we actually finished believe it or not!) and then of course had fun playing tons of games. After we had had our fair share of fun playing games, we went back to the apartment for cake and ice cream. They made the cutest little cake! It almost reminded me of a cake that would have come right out of Alice and Wonderland.<br />

<br />
This was probably one of the most if not THE most memorable birthday I've ever had. It was definitely just what I needed after a very long and stressful day. Thanks Amy and Alisa, you guys are the best!<br />

</div><div>Last May when I drove down to visit some friends and family in Provo, my sis-in-law's family was also visiting that weekend. Her two little sisters were talking about this awesome cruise that they were going on in January and kept persistently trying to convince me to come. Their parents, Casey, and Savannah also tried to convince me to come. I was trying to be a responsible adult by saying that I had to save my money for school, especially as I was approaching my senior year at BYU and with grad school just around the corner. After they semi convinced me that I hadn't really ever done anything fun like a vacation while I was going to college and that I might as well have fun while I'm young. Well I finally caved and decided to join in on this awesome Disney Cruise that would be setting sail the first full week of classes my last semester at BYU. I figured that by this time all of my applications would be in to grad schools and if I maybe missed an assignment or two it wouldn't be that big of a deal. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Well before I knew it, the 7-8 months had already passed and it was time for the cruise. It was actually a really nice because I had stayed in Provo and worked almost full time during Christmas break. Right when my roomies got back from break, I left for 10 days to go to California and Mexico. I felt like I hadn't seen them in forever! </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3Iya3VNjk2I/T4HP_GZVoXI/AAAAAAAAANw/_EhZGJW64dc/s1600/IMG_1069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3Iya3VNjk2I/T4HP_GZVoXI/AAAAAAAAANw/_EhZGJW64dc/s320/IMG_1069.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><div>We left early Friday morning after the first few days of classes and drove all the way down to California, yeah it was a long drive so I figure I'd try to be a good student and do as much reading and homework as I could on the drive down. Well we stayed a couple of days at Savannah's house and then we left early Sunday morning to drive down to get on the boat. We had to wait until about 12 or 1 before they let us on, but when they did where did we go first.... THE FOOD of course. Let the weight gain begin! Not going to lie I was rather excited for all of the food I would be eating over the next week. To make myself a little bit better about all of the food I would be eating, I planned to get up every morning (or at least nearly every morning) to go run/work out in the gym with my brother and his father in law. So for about 4 or 5 days out of the 7 I woke up at 5:50 (yup I know you're probably thinking I was crazy for wanting to wake up that early during my vacation) and went and ran a few miles on the treadmill and then lifted a few weights. I have to say that the way they had the bikes and the treadmills set up though was so cool! It seriously felt like you were running on water because the treadmills were pushed up so close to this gigantic windows that looked over the ocean. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Besides waking up at 5:50 all of those mornings being my favorite thing (haha not really, but it was pretty cool), I think my favorite part about the cruise would have to be the entertainment they had every night after dinner. It's Disney so of course they focused on the entertainment aspect of the cruise to the max. Probably my favorite show they did was this play/musical (again Disney) where they incorporated all of these classic Disney stories into one story. It was really really cool! </div><div><br />
</div><div>My next favorite thing about the cruise was when we got off in Cabo and got to to snorkeling our first day off the ship. My sis-in-law and her sister's refused to come because they are all deathly afraid of fish, haha it was kind of funny. Even though the water was still a little cool with it being January and all, it was still so much fun! Our next day off of the ship in Cabo we decided that we were going to to parasailing! I was so excited, this was definitely one thing that I wanted to do while in Mexico. I was lucky and got to go up with my little cruise buddy, Savannah's little sister Abby. She was definitely a lot of fun to hang out with while on the ship. </div><div><br />
</div><div>My cruise to Mexico was SO much fun and it was definitely worth the money to not only go on my very first cruise, but travel outside of the country for my first time, go to Mexico for the first time, go snorkeling and parasailing for the first time, and to take a break from school. It was definitely a nice little break before what was probably going to be the most stressful semester yet laying ahead of me. But all in all I had a ton of fun and plan on hopefully going on a cruise again someday. </div><div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>So sadly, in December I had to say goodbye to some pretty awesome people I work with. They all decided they were too good for the OG in Provo and left for better things. Well I guess I probably would have too if I had the option of going home to California, going to Romania for a semester, or going to Washington DC for a semester. Anyway in celebration of these wonderful girls going away we had a night full of fun. We started out with dinner at CPK aka California Pizza Kitchen, we actually had quite a few people from work show up too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7OxnclpcQJ8/T0p4okg2QQI/AAAAAAAAANI/FfftA1z5W7Y/s1600/385868_10150441043933744_680453743_8556542_1110768977_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7OxnclpcQJ8/T0p4okg2QQI/AAAAAAAAANI/FfftA1z5W7Y/s320/385868_10150441043933744_680453743_8556542_1110768977_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Dinner was pretty much amazing. After dinner though a few of us wanted to go to this place called Spark... k well in case you already scrolled down and saw the pictures below, I must explain myself... yes this place is a "lounge" as you might want to call it, but of course being in Provo, Utah aka Mormonville USA of course this "lounge" is most definitely a NON-ALCOHOLIC lounge! Not to mention that at least three of us in those pictures are underage anyway. I'm not going to lie, it was a little weird chilling on these very trendy couches sipping drinks that were supposed to be imitations of cocktails. My drink was pretty yummy though.<br />

So for our ward Christmas party we had dinner up the canyon at Aspen Grove. It was so pretty! It was in this big lodge and we were surrounded by snow (which was an amazing feat in itself seeing how we haven't had any snow at all it seems like this year). The dinner was super yummy and we had a short Christmas program afterward. Alisa and Matt sang Believe from Polar Express and it was beautiful! After the party a few of us went back to Brian's apartment and watched the Grinch... probably only my favorite Christmas movie of all time! :D<br />

It was exactly what I needed! It was so much fun to see her, seeing as how I hadn't seen her since I had moved back down to school in August! We went to Sammy's for lunch and then went to Breaking Dawn later that afternoon... yeah and surprisingly it was lot better than I thought it was going to be, by far the best Twilight movie thus far. After we got done watching the movie, we went window shopping for a couple hours at the Provo Mall where of all places we ran into another friend from little Burley, Idaho. Lo and behold we saw Kirsten and her cute little baby boy Greyson. We got to chat with her a bit, continued our window shopping and then as random and maybe even pathetic as this may be, we went to Olive Garden for dinner (yeah I know you're probably thinking "don't you get enough of that place during the week when you're working?" but hey it was actually really good). After dinner we ended up getting tickets for the BYU football game and went for only the first half, simply because it was freezing and we were kicking the other team's trash. I was so happy that Tress was able to come visit me, she was such a trooper, putting up with sleeping on an extra hard bed and driving all the way home with her niece. Tress you're awesome! Love ya buddy can't wait for you to come back down so we can hang out again soon!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(yeah if you couldn't tell, totally laughing in this picture) </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-36698907688932385552011-12-11T22:31:00.000-08:002011-12-11T22:31:02.894-08:00Halloween FunSo I have always loved corn mazes, but I've always been way too cheap to pay to go to the ones down here in Utah simply because they charge and arm and a leg for admission. But luckily Cornbelly's was offering a discount for BYU students for one night so I bunch of people from my ward decided it would be way fun to get a bunch of people together and go. Before we went though I was lucky and got to take a Humanities test and then went to go pick our a Halloween costume with Alisa so of course we headed to DI! :D I had no idea what to be, but Alisa had this fabulous idea... <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-53vrTyZ8b3I/TuWcXPejhAI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RGCbvFn6Pnw/s1600/IMG_0904.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-53vrTyZ8b3I/TuWcXPejhAI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RGCbvFn6Pnw/s320/IMG_0904.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Yeah I know what you're thinking, yeah we dressed up as toddlers. Ha this was totally Alisa's idea and it was awesome! So I felt kinda retarded but I ended up dressing up and going to Cornbelly's with my very pink pjs and teddy bear with a bunch of people from my Ward...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M4rilS0qZw8/TuWdO1QkfWI/AAAAAAAAAMc/CN1LCDPF_aI/s1600/IMG_0885.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M4rilS0qZw8/TuWdO1QkfWI/AAAAAAAAAMc/CN1LCDPF_aI/s320/IMG_0885.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Cornbelly's was so much fun! There was so much stuff to do like a hay ride and a bunch of different mazes, one of which was a straw maze where the entire thing was pitch black, it was kinda creepy but really cool! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">On Halloween we had a ward party for FHE where everyone dressed up in costumes and we ate food and played games, it was actually really fun. There were some very awesome costumes, but particularly I think this guy's was my favorite...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bZ0lIloC-Zc/TuWd-WCykmI/AAAAAAAAAMk/VxR9YUWDzYo/s1600/IMG_0898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bZ0lIloC-Zc/TuWd-WCykmI/AAAAAAAAAMk/VxR9YUWDzYo/s320/IMG_0898.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div>If you couldn't guess, yes this guy indeed dressed up like Joseph Smith and the scary part is that he actually looks a lot like him! Ha his costume was kinda an accident which made it that much funnier, then again only Ryan would think to dress up as Joseph Smith...</div><div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here is our lovely FHE family Halloween party picture </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dr81Xk-GkIM/TuWfVxD28pI/AAAAAAAAAMs/sjxb1elxT0E/s1600/IMG_0909.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dr81Xk-GkIM/TuWfVxD28pI/AAAAAAAAAMs/sjxb1elxT0E/s320/IMG_0909.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Honestly I think this has been by far my favorite FHE family! :D These guys are so much fun! </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-14729280933073643082011-11-21T23:25:00.000-08:002011-11-21T23:25:13.821-08:00Oh the Humanities!So this year I am taking a humanities class and so far it has gone a lot better than I originally expected. The class only required 2 midterms, final, take home assignments, and 2 papers. Doesn't sound too horrible and surprisingly it hasn't been, that is until I got slammed with studying for midterms for other classes and the due date for my first paper snuck up on me. The nice thing about the two papers, is that my teacher said we could hand in whichever one we wanted first as long as we completed both papers. I thought this was a good thing, until I had the most difficult time trying to decide which one I was going to do. After what seemed like hours of contemplating, I finally decided to do my creative works paper and just get it over with so that I wouldn't have to deal with it later in the semester. So the only option that was listed that even seemed doable for me, was to miraculously find a vase that was shaped similar to ancient Greek style vase and paint it in some style of ancient Greek pottery. So of course I start hunting for my vase Saturday morning when my paper/project was due the next coming Thursday. I knew that finding a pot might take some time and some serious hunting at DI or Savers, not to mention how long it would take me to actually paint it once I found it. Miraculously after walking into DI I found my vase within two minutes of being in the store. I couldn't believe no one else hadn't already found it and used it for their project (seeing as how my teacher gave our whole class the hint of looking at DI and savers). Let me just say I was thrilled I had found this vase, but I was even more sad because this vase was already painted in the style and era that I was planning on painting it for. Clearly someone had used this vase for the same project a semester or two before.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WP5KH1HkaJE/TstJjeuFZ2I/AAAAAAAAAL8/IwsX7f5gk44/s1600/IMG_0873.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WP5KH1HkaJE/TstJjeuFZ2I/AAAAAAAAAL8/IwsX7f5gk44/s320/IMG_0873.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>I was so sad that I had to paint over what was already on it and as badly as this may sound it did cross my mind just to keep most of it and change only a few details here and there, but of course that wouldn't be very honest so as hard as it was for me, I went to Michael's bought some terracotta colored acrylic paint and began repainting my vase. Yes, pictured to the left is the lovely vase I had to paint over and yes I took a picture of it because I felt it was very worthy of being remembered (I mean it's rather detailed if you ask me). It took quite a few coats of paint to cover all of the figures in black, especially all of the little llamaish looking figures. At first I thought that this vase would take, at the longest, only a few hours to paint over it and paint all of my figures onto it... OH BOY WAS I WRONG!! So after the first 6 hours painting my vase, I came out with I thought was decent, considering my lack of artistic abilities (especially when it comes to painting)... this is finished product...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kN-VWCATnZo/TstLD4kLpOI/AAAAAAAAAME/83awofFrfis/s1600/IMG_0874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kN-VWCATnZo/TstLD4kLpOI/AAAAAAAAAME/83awofFrfis/s320/IMG_0874.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>I know this may not look like I spent 5 or 6 hours painting this vase, but I seriously did and you best believe it was all freehand! Let me tell ya, this was the most artistic I have ever been required to be in my life and it was very difficult trying to make my vase look like it belonged somewhat to the Geometric Era of ancient Greek pottery. After I sat back and looked at my vase, I knew that it was still very plain, but I was seriously ready to just be done with it and write my paper. Well here was my mistake, I probably should have written my paper and painted my vase in response to the research that was required for my paper. I ended up including a few artistic characteristics that weren't exactly related to this period of pottery. Over the next few days I spent hours looking for sources to write my paper I realized that after my paper was written I was going to have to change a few of the shapes on my vase and add more detail. So after what was a total of probably 12 or more hours just strictly dedicated to painting this vase this was the finished product!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ktyHX4qlYTc/TstLFStXYqI/AAAAAAAAAMM/CFAr5aAyWAw/s1600/IMG_0876.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ktyHX4qlYTc/TstLFStXYqI/AAAAAAAAAMM/CFAr5aAyWAw/s320/IMG_0876.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>I know you're probably saying "that seriously took you another 5 or 6 hours to make the changes you made?" and to that I answer "YOU BEST BELIEVE IT!" Believe me I wasn't expecting it to take that long either, but it seriously did, painting freehand with a small brush is very difficult and can get rather tedious when you are repeating the same figure over and over again. I knew that my vase before I made the changes to it was too plain and probably wouldn't impress my teacher as much as if I added more color and intricate patterns than I had originally. I can honestly say that I spend more time painting that vase than I did the writing actual paper and doing the research for it. In the end my diligence in pottery painting paid off when I got my paper back and my teacher gave me positive remarks regarding my vase. I may not be an artist but this is definitely the best work I have every put forth in my artistic endeavors.KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-58792547089339356082011-11-21T14:01:00.000-08:002011-11-21T14:01:55.226-08:00Camping!...well sort of..<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>So there were a few people in our ward who were putting together a camping activity and I have to say that I was dying to go! Although I spent the majority of this last summer sleeping on the hard ground in a tent, I really wanted to go. There is just something about camping and being outdoors that I love. Well I was scheduled to work the night of the camp out, but my Alisa and I were planning on driving up the canyon to join the rest of the group after I got off work. I got all prepared, borrowing sleeping bags and a tent from my brother... and then of course it decided to rain a majority of the day and all through my shift (not to mention it was freezing outside!) I didn't care I still wanted to go camping... so we did... well sort of...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CMI-Ral6HvI/TsrHlJ8frWI/AAAAAAAAALs/18xxFlsGQfE/s1600/IMG_0862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CMI-Ral6HvI/TsrHlJ8frWI/AAAAAAAAALs/18xxFlsGQfE/s320/IMG_0862.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>So we ended up setting up the tent in our living room... ha it was so much FUN! It was a little ridiculous though I have to admit, because the tent was so big that it took up our entire living room!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GNJ-zS2xiFg/TsrHYVbe6WI/AAAAAAAAALc/QXeGXYFKUj0/s1600/IMG_0866.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GNJ-zS2xiFg/TsrHYVbe6WI/AAAAAAAAALc/QXeGXYFKUj0/s320/IMG_0866.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>It was so big that we could barely open our front door! It was kinda nice though because we were "camping" but we still were able to watch a movie and not freeze our tushes off (I think that was probably my favorite part). We ended up playing cards all night too (still very campy... campish..?). I was thoroughly happy that we had decided to stay inside and "go camping" instead of driving up the canyon because it continued to rain all night long and the ground would have been soaking wet, we probably would have ended up sleeping in our cars and not to mention that the next morning we woke up to a most frightful sight indeed....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Piv9K5Rq6Jc/TsrHjULdwrI/AAAAAAAAALk/VlRJfPeLAMU/s1600/IMG_0861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Piv9K5Rq6Jc/TsrHjULdwrI/AAAAAAAAALk/VlRJfPeLAMU/s320/IMG_0861.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Yep you guessed it... SNOW my friends! I could hardly believe my eyes, mind you this was still the beginning of October (yeah I know a little late with my posts... oh well). Although I have to admit we do have a mighty fine view from our balcony of the mountains. Our camp out was very fun... I think we will definitely be having one again! </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-10729187213178839752011-11-06T21:44:00.000-08:002011-11-06T21:44:03.109-08:00FHE Scavenger HuntSo this year I got the wonderful calling as an FHE Mom. At first I was kinda scared not gonna lie, but I can honestly say I love my kiddos in my family, they are fantastic! So for one of our first FHE activities I thought it would be way fun to have an video/picture scavenger hunt. Sadly I didn't think of all of these on my own, but I thought these were way too fun not to use.<br />

I think my favorite was meeting up with the second half our FHE group to go Christmas caroling in the no SHH zone of the library, but then we decided we would probably get kicked out so we decided to all pile into and elevator and when someone got in we would start singing a Christmas song, but after waiting in the elevator for about 5 minutes we decided that this was probably not the best idea so we ended up leaving and calling it quits for the night. All in all though it was way fun and we all had a blast! </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-59004348202187374882011-11-06T21:26:00.000-08:002011-11-06T21:26:18.061-08:00BYU vs. utah(Yep so I know this happened forever ago but here it is...)<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>September 17, 2011</div><div><br />
</div><div>So today was the big BYU vs. Utah game... and this year I decided not to get a sports pass to go the football games, but I figured if there was one football game I should go to this one was it! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v4xS3H-ySq0/TrdnuYluYzI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/hQqBTiNICMQ/s1600/IMG_0829.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v4xS3H-ySq0/TrdnuYluYzI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/hQqBTiNICMQ/s320/IMG_0829.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8WFWdOT3cZ0/Trdonowv7oI/AAAAAAAAAKY/0eXCYNS1Vl4/s1600/IMG_0822.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline !important; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8WFWdOT3cZ0/Trdonowv7oI/AAAAAAAAAKY/0eXCYNS1Vl4/s320/IMG_0822.JPG" width="320" /></a> So I was lucky enough to find a ticket at the last minute (actually from one of my bosses from my summer job... kinda weird) so I coughed up $40 just to go to this game, but I figured it was a good investment to attend my last BYU vs. Utah game (well at least while I'm an undergrad). My roommate Alisa and I walked what seemed like forever to the football game (I guess the one thing that was nice about living at the Riv was the fact that you couldn't possibly get any closer to the stadium for football games). We found our seats (which weren't that great) and got ready to cheer on our Cougs! Because this was a huge game (as it always is...) it seemed like it took forever to get the actual game started... but I have to say the "opening ceremonies" were pretty awesome. I don't think I have ever seen an American flag this big before! So the game started and the first quarter wasn't too bad, but toward the middle of the game our Cougars weren't playing up to their full potential (ok so maybe that's just a really nice way to say that Utah was basically kicking our trash). So by half time we were down, but of course all of us die hard fans were praying for a comeback in the second half of the game... well I guess as basically everyone knows these prayers were not answered <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-boPU-Ff1HwI/Trdq3HsPe2I/AAAAAAAAAKo/wMyJ2jjiXXM/s1600/IMG_0827.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-boPU-Ff1HwI/Trdq3HsPe2I/AAAAAAAAAKo/wMyJ2jjiXXM/s320/IMG_0827.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>because we ended up getting beat pretty horribly, in fact to the extent that most people started leaving half way through the third quarter. With only ten minutes left of the game Alisa and I decided that we were just going to walk home and finish watching the rest of it on TV because we were starving and figured there was no point in staying when we were getting our butts whooped. Although it wasn't the best way to end my last year of BYU football, I'm still glad I got to go cheer on my Cougs, even if I might be turning over to the dark side next year by going to the U for grad school... I'll still always be a BYU Cougar at heart!<br />

It was A-MA-ZING! The drive up there just in itself was gorgeous and it was such a great opportunity to get to know the girls in my ward a little bit better. I have to admit I felt a little intimidated having Jenny Phillips sitting by me during the opening hymn haha. I had heard a few of her songs growing up in young womens, but after she shared some of her songs with us, I have to admit I have been listening to her songs quite regularly for almost a month now. They are just great inspirational messages that help me through my day and are good break from some of the not so uplifting lyrics in some of the songs heard on the radio nowadays. The next morning, after a very long night of hard bunk beds and almost freezing to death, we were privileged to go to devotional by our stake president. His messages he shared were just as inspiring as Sister Phillips were, maybe even more so. He talked about his youngest son, who they adopted after having been neglected by his parents. He had almost drown in the bathtub twice and was suspected to have been beaten by his father. It was such as sad story but so inspiring to hear how his wife was so excited to adopt him and take care of him even though it would require more work and effort than their previous children had. The overall theme for the "Retreat" was Happily Ever After and how each of us (let's face it especially as women) are seeking for that Happily Ever After we each dream of. President Schollenberger and Sister Phillips messages were amazing and were just what I needed to hear. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to attend that activity be more inspired to live each day striving for my Happily Ever After. <br />
<br />
On another note, Later that After noon, my roommate Alisa and I were able to go to the Women's Expo at UVU. Last year when I went with Kyleigh, I ended up buying more than I probably should have, but they were seriously too good of deals for me to pass up. So this year I was super proud of myself for making it through almost three fourths of all of the booths without buying a single cute frilly thing. I came to this one booth though where this lady was selling paintings of the Salt Lake Temple. They were GORGEOUS!! Alisa and I thought it would be good to buy a couple of her paintings to put in a couple of the picture frames that we had made for the apartment. But when we couldn't find anymore of the one we really liked and were going to settle for a couple other ones, I was maybe a little too impulsive but got this bright idea that I would buy one of the big ones that was already framed. The more I tried to analyze the pros and cons of buying this painting, the pros were heavily outweighing the cons. I decided to buy this wonderful painting...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LTRy-2el27E/Toi1YosnTxI/AAAAAAAAAJs/EXqJgDraiOQ/s1600/bblossam+final+72.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LTRy-2el27E/Toi1YosnTxI/AAAAAAAAAJs/EXqJgDraiOQ/s320/bblossam+final+72.jpg" width="171" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I just loved this painting so much I couldn't pass it by, especially when it was 25% off. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It definitely made a lovely addition to apartment! </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-17160649589090968832011-09-05T00:03:00.000-07:002011-09-05T01:08:40.639-07:00- Cute Craftiness -So I posted earlier this year how I was super excited to be moving into my new apartment with 2 very good friends. Well I had planned on making a few decorative things to bring to put in our apartment to add just a bit more touch of home to it, but of course the last 2 weeks of work just before I moved back down to school were crazy busy. I barely had time to pack, let alone complete these fun crafty ideas I got from my sis-in-law. She was my inspiration for a lot of the crafts we did. To see the before pictures of our apartment click <a href="http://kelseelynn.blogspot.com/2011/03/housing-hunt.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
This is the aftermath of a very busy day of craftiness...<br />
<br />
First we decided that we wanted some cute picture frames to hang up, but we wanted something unique but very cute at the same time. So I got this idea from my sis-in-law (who had gotten the idea from another blog she found) to mod podge pictures frames. My roommate Alisa and I are obsessed with damask print right now so we thought this would be fun to do the picture frames in. So we went to Michaels, bought a pack of really cute paper we could mix and match with our picture frames. This was our end result...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uFt1OslSKUU/TmRuPhdZXcI/AAAAAAAAAJc/WnDX03svLvE/s1600/IMG_0796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uFt1OslSKUU/TmRuPhdZXcI/AAAAAAAAAJc/WnDX03svLvE/s320/IMG_0796.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The smaller two we realized were barely too big to fit a regular 8 1/2 by 11 paper over, so we ended up just painting the edges black and it still turned out fine. We added the cute little flowers in the corner to give it a little color to stand out. We also made a couple of these picture frames as well...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gWCaZyDMSEg/TmRuVNQhx_I/AAAAAAAAAJk/LPjmc7xnsmo/s1600/IMG_0799.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gWCaZyDMSEg/TmRuVNQhx_I/AAAAAAAAAJk/LPjmc7xnsmo/s320/IMG_0799.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>This paper was really cute and had the largest print, so we decided to use it on frames with a lot of surface area to bring out the pretty design. These picture frames were only $1 at Michaels... yes a dollar! Can you think of a cheaper way to get such a cute picture frame than to just make it yourself with some paper and mod podge. If you are interested in making some like these, <a href="http://justsomethingyoumade.blogspot.com/2009/02/mod-podge-picture-frames-by-tidy-mom.html">here </a> is a website you can go to with step by step directions. <br />
<br />
We love how we have a couple red accent walls in our apartment, but they were very bare when we moved in, so the one in the kitchen we got this really great idea...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iZpNPqrNOuc/TmRuEkok9HI/AAAAAAAAAJM/DuUxx2nD7bQ/s1600/IMG_0790.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iZpNPqrNOuc/TmRuEkok9HI/AAAAAAAAAJM/DuUxx2nD7bQ/s320/IMG_0790.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><br />
Each of us had our aprons in the kitchen when we were moving in and arranging our kitchen supplies. We were trying to decide what to do with the wall when we got this awesome idea to hang our aprons up. It was a simple but very cute idea. When we were at Michael's buying the picture frames, we came across these very cute letters that we decided would be fun to mod podge and hang over the aprons to stand for our first initial of our name, Amy - Kelsee - Alisa. Here is a little better picture of the letters and the mod podge that we did. We just used a different design in the packet of paper we bought for the picture frames for our living room and they turned out very cute. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf15pVL9zHY/TmRuWai89jI/AAAAAAAAAJo/nJU9Gxickw4/s1600/IMG_0802.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf15pVL9zHY/TmRuWai89jI/AAAAAAAAAJo/nJU9Gxickw4/s320/IMG_0802.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Above the cupboards in the kitchen we decided to add a sprig of greenery and added a little red star just above the sink...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k0UIKSezwFM/TmRuSulwRhI/AAAAAAAAAJg/D1uPQFLpKss/s1600/IMG_0797.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k0UIKSezwFM/TmRuSulwRhI/AAAAAAAAAJg/D1uPQFLpKss/s320/IMG_0797.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
For the living room, we were going to buy some very cute decorative throw pillows, but the crafty crazes took over and we just decided it would be a lot better if we just went to a fabric store and picked out our own fabric and made pillows. So we picked out a lighter fabric with an antique damask looking print and then a darker red fabric. We even had enough red fabric left over that we made a matching table runner for our coffee table. The finished product of our apartment...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sM-7afSCCTk/TmRuJpzLgoI/AAAAAAAAAJU/G40154bbwDI/s1600/IMG_0794.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sM-7afSCCTk/TmRuJpzLgoI/AAAAAAAAAJU/G40154bbwDI/s320/IMG_0794.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZdqyoNbfTmY/TmRuMKYORbI/AAAAAAAAAJY/bNTq9ZF4kZc/s1600/IMG_0795.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZdqyoNbfTmY/TmRuMKYORbI/AAAAAAAAAJY/bNTq9ZF4kZc/s320/IMG_0795.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And yes we got so excited about our picture frames we decided to </div><div style="text-align: center;">hang them even though we don't even have pictures in them yet. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Hopefully soon we get some roommate pictures taken to put in them.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iQpBN4mAux4/TmRuHFuav2I/AAAAAAAAAJQ/TBrtTV2FGUk/s1600/IMG_0793.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iQpBN4mAux4/TmRuHFuav2I/AAAAAAAAAJQ/TBrtTV2FGUk/s320/IMG_0793.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">We still have a few things left we have planned to possibly do to the apartment, but I'd have to say I'm rather pleased with our end product and accomplishing all of our craft projects in just a couple of days. There's nothing like coming back to your apartment after a long day of classes and actually having it feel like home, rather than just a place you just happen to be living at. I think all of our little projects has definitely made our apartment feel more like a home away from home. </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-28741857241250839322011-09-04T23:19:00.000-07:002011-09-04T23:19:17.680-07:00Wallow Fire Part - 2So I realized I was maybe a little too detailed with my last entry. So I promise this next one will be more brief. Everyday on the fire was never the same, we were doing different things all the time. A few days we did structure protection, another few days we monitored a road and made sure the fire didn't go over the road and onto the other side, and the last few days we were there we worked with the Hot Shots (yes I am not making this up there are crews that are called hot shots, they don't work on engines, but only work with chainsaws and hand tools to put out fire - yeah something I could probably never do!)<br />
<br />
It seemed like the 2 and a half weeks I spent in Arizona seemed really long while I was there, but looking back they just seemed to fly by. I swear the entire month of June was basically consumed by the Wallow fire. The last few days I was there, I was trying to make arrangements to fly to my sister's wedding in Colorado, because I was going to miss it by only a day if I stayed with my engine. So Thursday night one of the guys from my crew drove me from our spike camp to the base camp which was an hour away so that I could be checked out and could catch my flight the next morning to Grand Junction. Ground Support was supposed to give me a ride to the airport early the next morning, but those plans didn't work so Travis ended up driving me all the way to Show Low, Arizona so that I could catch my flight the next morning. So here's where it gets crazy. My mom had been talking to my grandma about my situation of trying to make it to Tia's wedding and my grandma happened to mention to my mom that I had relatives in Show Low if I needed somewhere to stay the night before my flight left. So guess where I was headed... to this relative's house I had never met before and who my mom only ever remembers meeting once over twenty years ago. Ha kinda random.<br />
<br />
So we got to Show Low around dinner time and so Travis and I decided to get a $5 pizza at Little Caesars before he dropped me off at the airport. For the past week and a half the guys had been complaining how bad they wanted pizza and how good it always sounded after a long hard day of work. Travis and I didn't want them to feel left out, so we sent them this picture...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ck2kDp6IP1k/TmRkiFqVaxI/AAAAAAAAAIs/Gy0q7LHfdXs/s1600/Picture+133.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ck2kDp6IP1k/TmRkiFqVaxI/AAAAAAAAAIs/Gy0q7LHfdXs/s320/Picture+133.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I was just glad I didn't have to put up with all the complaining and moaning that I was sure was bound to happen because Travis and I had gotten pizza while the rest of the crew didnt. Although we did ahve 3 pieces left over that Travis took back to give the guys, but the little ungrateful whiners didn't even end up eating it from what I understand. Ha oh well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>So I had to just sit at the airport and wait for this lady who I had never met to come pick me up after she got done working at the temple. I have to admit I was a little relieved and kinda excited to talk with someone who was LDS and felt a little safer knowing she was LDS and I wasn't staying in some crazy person's home. She ended up being super nice and let me sleep in a bed... yes a BED! I mean one with a mattress and blankets and everything. I don't think I've ever been so excited to sleep on a bed in my life before, I guess that's what happens after you spend 2 weeks sleeping on the hard ground in the rocks. She even let me take a shower in her nice white tiled bathroom. I felt like a homeless person going into her house with my dirty boots (don't worry I left them outside ha) and my very dirty body that had not been washed in week. Yes as disgusting as that is in the 15 days I was there I only got 1 shower... yes ONLY ONE!!! I was rather dirty, so much that I can admit I don't think I ever want to be a brunette again... here are a few pictures of my very dirty self....<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S9SlkIwWEiU/TmRmR4fmfqI/AAAAAAAAAI4/O0DTZSpzdgc/s1600/IMG_0624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S9SlkIwWEiU/TmRmR4fmfqI/AAAAAAAAAI4/O0DTZSpzdgc/s320/IMG_0624.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1H6sOozGYmY/TmRmn_UvCNI/AAAAAAAAAI8/sEWUVdySa5s/s1600/IMG_0645.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1H6sOozGYmY/TmRmn_UvCNI/AAAAAAAAAI8/sEWUVdySa5s/s320/IMG_0645.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TGHVo0U71h0/TmRmG1B0JZI/AAAAAAAAAIw/mly-MhsrjFw/s1600/IMG_0642.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TGHVo0U71h0/TmRmG1B0JZI/AAAAAAAAAIw/mly-MhsrjFw/s320/IMG_0642.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
The guys on my crew dared me to not shower and wear the same clothes that I had on when I left to ride home on the plane. They told me they would each pay me like $50 if I did this... it was rather tempting, but don't worry I value my personal hygiene more than a hundred dollars, so yes I did end up showering. I'm not sure I would have lasted many more days without a shower. Baby wipes only go so far out on the fire line.<br />
<br />
So I made it to my flight the next morning after my relative (who I believe to be my grandpa's cousin's wife- yep pretty distant) made me a wonderful breakfast. This was my first time riding on one of those little puddle jumper planes and I have to admit you feel more like you're flying the smaller the airplane is, which I thought was kinda cool. I made it to Denver where I had a few hours to kill before my next flight to Grand Junction. I ended up calling a few friends to catch up because I had little to no communication with them for the last 2 weeks. I looked like such a weirdo in my fire pants and fire boots and T-shirt just chillin at the airport. I got quite a few weird glances - that's for sure! My parents and sister picked me up in Grand Junction and I helped get the last few things ready for the wedding which was supposed to happen in under 12 hours. <br />
<br />
The wedding was up in the mountains and was beautiful! I was happy to see my sister too because it had been almost a year since I had seen her and her husband and my niece and nephew. I was so glad I got to go to my sister's wedding and spend time with her and the rest of my family.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DMFcD-UaZi4/TmRpBwlpzWI/AAAAAAAAAJA/-AxRW-lLB-M/s1600/263144_10150243357263431_796368430_7283412_4777021_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DMFcD-UaZi4/TmRpBwlpzWI/AAAAAAAAAJA/-AxRW-lLB-M/s320/263144_10150243357263431_796368430_7283412_4777021_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To think that I went from looking like this.... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">In just a few short hours was rather a miraculous transformation lol :D </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">All in all, I'm so grateful for the opportunity that I had to go to Arizona, it gave the opportunity to gain a better relationship with the guys on my crew and built a great crew cohesion that we relied on for the rest of the summer during our rather busy fire season. </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-10220976898363641532011-07-10T21:03:00.000-07:002011-07-10T22:52:18.494-07:00Wallow Fire Part - 1So I'm pretty sure it's been over a month since I've updated my blog! Let me tell you... I have been one BUSY GIRL!! So June 5th - 10th I had classes scheduled every day, ALL day for work. One class was 4 days long! This class was all about fire weather, which don't get me wrong is extremely important and was even rather interesting until about the middle of day 3 when this guy came to teach the unit on fuel moisture... pretty sure he repeated himself like 8 times with everything he said (NO EXAGGERATION THERE WHATSOEVER!) and he went over time so not only did we have to be to class early that day but we got out late too... kind of annoying. So the next day, the 9th was the big "final exam" which you had to pass in order to get credit for the class. I was a little nervous for it, but me being me, studied my huge government issued fire weather behavior book for the class anyway even though all of the tests I had ever taken for any of my other classes were all open book. The next morning we had one a couple more units to cover before we took the "final exam." During our first break I check my phone and I had a text message from Chad (one of the guys on my crew) and Zach (my engine boss). Both telling me to call either of them when I got on break. I figured they just had a simple question about where I had put something on the truck when I organized it or something, but instead they asked me if I had my red bag ready. Now when you're asked if your Red bag is ready it can only mean one thing... First off - a red bag is this huge red bag (excuse the redundancy :P) that you pack to last you 14 days out on the fire line, stuff like a sleeping bag, pillow, clothes, etc. Now when someone asks if your red bag is ready it means you're going to an out of state fire!! I never got to go out of state last year on a fire, but for some reason I had this feeling this year when I was packing my red bag that I needed to pack it a little more thoroughly than usual. I tried to argue with myself trying to convince myself there was NO WAY we were ever going to get to go out of state this year, especially being 11th on the list of over 25 trucks to go out of state. Well I will definitely trust my little "hunches" I have in the future, that's for sure, because as soon as I was finished with my class I was headed to Arizona! I called my parents on my lunch hour to tell them that I was leaving that afternoon and that I wouldn't see them for a couple of weeks. Mind you my parents had been gone 2 weeks already and were on their way home, but wouldn't be there until the morning after I left. <br />
<br />
So after I finished my test, 3 other guys from my yard, who were also taking classes, drove back to the yard and got all of our last minute things together before we left. My engine and 2 other engines had already left and we were supposed to catch up with them in one of the chase trucks (aka a pickup :D, government jargon can be kinda weird ha) On the way down we saw at least 4 or 5 other engines from the Boise district who were also headed down south to go fight the raging fires down south. The fire my engine crew was headed to was the Wallow Fire and it had been raging since Memorial Day weekend and was well over 300,000 acres. I was kinda nervous but super excited! :D<br />
<br />
On our drive down through northern Utah one of the guys from my crew asked me a rather interesting question kinda out of the blue. "Kelsee are you a hardcore Mormon or one of those Mormons who just goes with the flow?" (Side note - Although I might live in a highly populated LDS area most of the guys that I work with are not LDS and are a little rough around the edges) Ha, I didn't know what he exactly meant by that. So I asked him what he thought I was. He thought I was a hardcore Mormon which he labeled as someone who doesn't under any circumstances, drink, smoke, cuss, watch R-rated movies, etc. After being around people who drink and smoke and cuss ( A LOT ) it has given me such a great perspective on my life to know how much the gospel and living the commandments has had such a positive effect on my life. I like the guys that I work with, they are good people, but I am definitely glad I have the chance to go back to BYU in the fall to reboost my association with people who have the same beliefs and standards that I do.<br />
<br />
We finally met up with my engine in Spanish Fork, UT and then kept heading south through Price and onto Moab where we stayed the night. The next morning we headed back on the highway across the desert of Southern Utah and Arizona. I can honestly say it was the most boring drive of my life! I thought that Southern Idaho highways wer bad with all the sagebrush and the mountains in the distance, but that is because I had never been through Arizona. We drove through a handful of little towns where the population couldn't have been more than 30-50 people! I don't know how these people live out there in the middle of the desert out in the middle of nowhere! When we finally got back on the freeway for a little while we stopped at this gas station and asked the cashier where the best place to eat was. She told us the Route 66 Diner, so naturally we went in search of this place and this is what we found....<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8OY3eTFEW1s/ThpnnpHcpbI/AAAAAAAAAHc/5bXmJj1aglU/s1600/IMG_0492.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8OY3eTFEW1s/ThpnnpHcpbI/AAAAAAAAAHc/5bXmJj1aglU/s320/IMG_0492.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><br />
This little podunk diner, I mean single wide trailer with an addition on the front. It probably one of the most interesting dining experiences I've ever had in my life. You walked in (very carefully avoiding the top step that looked like it was going to cave in at any moment) and sat down at these booths that were tiny. There was also thick strips of plastic over the windows and half way through the room to keep the air conditioning from escaping out the thin cracked windows. One of our waitresses was I think like 10 years old too. Haha, all in all it was pretty good food, even though they didn't know what fry sauce was.... even though we were only a couple hundred miles south of Utah.<br />
<br />
On the road again... just a couple more hours and we started to see smoke from the fire ahead of us. As we got closer, we began to climb a bit in elevation and soon we were in the mountains with tons of Ponderosa Pine trees. When they had told me we were coming to Arizona, I had pictured the desert with 110 degree weather with cactus and scorpions, not the steep mountains with tons of pine trees! We passed through a town that had been evacuated and the National Guard had even been called in to set up road blocks and keep the roads blocked from civilians... let's just say I had never NEVER EVER EVER been to a fire this big before! A 300,000 acre grass fire is a pretty big fire but a 300,000 acre forest fire is huge and off the charts! <br />
<br />
We pulled into the main camp for the District we had been assigned to, which was actually in New Mexico (I can officially say that I have been to every Western state now :D ) got checked in, ate dinner, set up our tents and went to bed. The next morning while Zach and Chad went to briefing to receive our assignments, Travis, Brandon (the other 2 guys on my crew) and along with a few others spent over and hour trying to break into our chase truck because Chad had locked the keys in the truck the night before. After much effort we managed to get the keys out of the truck and went on our way toward the fire line. Zach had been assigned to be a strike leader (leader of a group of engines). So for the first few days we were assigned to work in this canyon doing structure protection on a few of the houses down in the canyon. <br />

I'm just going to say right now that one day I am going to own a house like this up in the mountains for my own private get-a-ways. This house was absolutely beautiful! Up on a hill overlooking the valley below and the mountains!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BK1dwqX9MrI/ThpvzM_IRlI/AAAAAAAAAHk/3Eb3_1AyB7I/s1600/IMG_0500.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BK1dwqX9MrI/ThpvzM_IRlI/AAAAAAAAAHk/3Eb3_1AyB7I/s320/IMG_0500.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><br />
I think this was probably my favorite part about this house! Yes.. this is a picture of a shower that was built in off the back of the house! It was such a pretty view from there too! And hello it's totally secluded on the top of this hill, could you think of a better way to take a shower! :D haha. They even left soap and shampoo out there. After a few days of not showering, all of us were joking about maybe coming back up to this house and using "the shower" haha.KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-21161918326181009372011-06-05T19:10:00.000-07:002011-06-05T19:10:48.685-07:00P-R-O-V-O Memorial DaySo my wonderful parents decided to go on a cruise without me. So after work on Memorial Day weekend I decided to pay my brother and sister-in-law a visit because I wasn't about to spend a full 2 weeks alone by myself at home. I needed to get out and at least do something! So after work that Friday, I packed up my car and headed down to Provo. I was so excited to be going back, even if it was only for a few days, I seriously miss being down there! :( I like my job, sometimes I just wish it was down there though. I got to go back to the OG and eat lunch with my parents and my sis-in-law's family. It was weird being back there after being gone for over a month and a half. I also got to see a few of my friends while I was down there too. My friend Alisa and I got to talking about things we were going to need for our apartment next year and ended up looking at stuff online for over and hour and a half! It was insane but we found some really cute stuff: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2Rpj3hHmbfA/Tew1XAtogNI/AAAAAAAAAHM/SFOyuxeHsfE/s1600/0002779423619_300X300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2Rpj3hHmbfA/Tew1XAtogNI/AAAAAAAAAHM/SFOyuxeHsfE/s1600/0002779423619_300X300.jpg" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EqHe2zCY6Xo/Tew1oDZ9XfI/AAAAAAAAAHU/QtfrsCbb8CY/s1600/IMG_0476.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EqHe2zCY6Xo/Tew1oDZ9XfI/AAAAAAAAAHU/QtfrsCbb8CY/s320/IMG_0476.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>Of course there is more important stuff we need to get, but we had fun looking at stuff like this too :D i am so excited for this next school year... awesome roommates, a cute apartment, applying for grad school, and a Disney Cruise in January with my brother sis-in-law Savannah and her family. I'm really excited because this will be my first time on a cruise and my first time out of this country! Not to mention it will be a nice break from school. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go at first, because I was trying to tell myself to do the responsible thing and put the money I would be spending on this cruise toward grad school, but I haven't done anything fun for myself in awhile so I figure I deserve it! I had an awesome time down in Provo, and I can't wait to go back down for another visit and see more friends in a couple of weeks!KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-6665502115877211652011-06-05T18:41:00.000-07:002011-06-05T18:41:32.994-07:00I hate being sick!So I think because I was lucky and went the entire school year without being sick that it had to catch up with me<br />
eventually, so yes I ended up getting the worse cold/sinus infection/allergies (whatever you wish to call it) I think I have had in the longest time. I honestly felt at times that my head was going to implode.... yes <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">IMPLODE</span> not explode. There was so much pressure building in my head that I honestly felt like the outside of my head was being sucked into the center of my skull... ok ok so I guess that was a pretty extreme exaggeration of a description but seriously, I don't think I have ever had that much pressure built in my head before! After the first 5 days of being completely miserable and having my voice sound like a boy who's going through voice changes I paid my doctor little visit. Usually my doctor just tells me to get rest and to take cold medicine and drink lots of fluids... well the think was I had been doing all of that from day 1 and I had only gotten worse. Usually I hate taking medicine ( I mean I have to be completely miserable before I'll take Tylenol or cold medicine ) but by Day 2 I was taking Mucinex, 24 hr allergy medicine, and Tylenol. So usually when I go into the doctor's office the last thing I want is antibiotics, but this time I was going to beg him to put me on antibiotics. Thankfully he did prescribe me some and i was super happy, and I also found out the last time I took antibiotics was in 2008... that's quite awhile ago. Let me tell you those antibiotics were amazing, I continued to take all of my other meds though on top of the antibiotics and after a few days.... (hallelujah chorus) I began to get better! It was amazing! Thank you for modern medicine!!KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-78693875067501932992011-05-20T20:37:00.000-07:002011-05-20T20:37:30.475-07:00First Week of Work Finally Over!So I started work this last week... yeah I know I was saying how I couldn't wait to go back to work because it would give me something to do, but I have to admit I'm so glad that my first week of work is over. This week we have basically just been reviewing stuff in classes. Class is something to do (better than sitting around) but most times it's super boring... at least I'm getting paid to sit in class instead of paying to take a class.<br />
<br />
I was kinda nervous about taking my pack test too. We were supposed to take our pack test on the pack fest day on June 1st when the rookies have joined us. In order to be able to work you have to pass a pack test, carrying a 45 lb pack and walking/jogging 3 miles in 45 minutes. I finished with plenty of time last year, but this year I felt like I wasn't in as good of shape as last spring. I showed up to work today ready to work out but found out that we were taking our pack test today. I was so nervous that I wasn't going to pass. We headed out to the old high school's track, strapped on our packs and started our 12 laps around the track. It was honestly easier than I thought it was going to be and I ended up beating my time from last year... guess I was worried for nothing.<br />
<br />
I was kinda nervous about the crew I would be put on, but I'm happy to say that I like my crew so far. I'm the only girl on my crew (no surprise there) and I'm the most inexperienced, no rookies this year. Then again if it's anything like last year, people will probably get shifted around from crew to crew. I like my job, but it's a good thing that I only work there for 4 months. All of the cussing, chewing, and smoking gets really old really fast. Last year it took me awhile to get used to it, but I have to say that after an amazing year at BYU, I'm already sick of all of these nasty habits. There are only a couple of people that I work with who are LDS, but even still I much preferred the atmosphere in Provo working at the OG where almost everyone had the same standards. Oh well, I'm not going to be working this job for the rest of my life.... <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">NO WAY JOSE, </span>but it pays really well to help me get through school during the fall.KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-86567029184773141172011-05-14T11:47:00.000-07:002011-05-14T11:47:06.001-07:00Going Back to WorkYou'd think with a 3 week break from school and work I would have kept this thing updated a little better, but sadly my life hasn't been all that exciting. I was so used to having such a busy schedule that 3 week break almost drove me crazy! Luckily my brother and sister-in-law came for a visit during the first week. After they left, I started on one of my summer projects/year goals ... making a quilt. I had never made a quilt before so this was going to be an adventure. I started looking for patterns online and found this really cute pattern <a href="http://www.amybutlerdesign.com/pdfs/Amys_Mid_Mod_Quilt.pdf">here</a>. I had my sister-in-law help me pick out the fabric for my quilt before they left and spent the next 4 days cutting out all of my pieces and sewing them together. I was glad because it gave me something productive to do and not to mention it was turning out to be <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">stinkin cute! </span>Here's a picture of the center piece...<div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tr99Uuu0kDk/Tc7Kzp_3PwI/AAAAAAAAAHI/8U6vJbVjNO4/s1600/IMG_0473.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tr99Uuu0kDk/Tc7Kzp_3PwI/AAAAAAAAAHI/8U6vJbVjNO4/s320/IMG_0473.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>I know, I know it's blue, but I did throw a little bit of yellow in there too. It's still getting quilted right now and I still have to sew on the binding but I will be sure to post pictures when it's completely finished. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Although making a quilt has been fun, I can't wait to finally go back to work on Monday, not only will it give me a regular weekly routine again, but I'll be getting a steady income again... YAY! I just hope I'm not scheduled on Sundays again last year so I actually get a chance to go to church for once. I just hope I'm on a good crew this year. </div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-70170763584143778982011-04-30T22:34:00.000-07:002011-04-30T22:34:37.733-07:00best roomies ever!So this last year has been so awesome! I absolutely loved every minute of it!! I think the biggest reason for this is my <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">awesome, cool, amazing, loving, talented, smart, gorgeous, hilarious, caring, kind, fantastic, </span>etc... roommates! Although we had roommates come and go this last year, I enjoyed living with every single one of them. Each brought her own unique character into our apartment and made it that much more fun. We definitely had our fair share of laughs. Of course during the first semester, that can only be expected seeing how all 6 of us were blonde and blue eyed. We all had our blonde moments that for sure (ok so maybe me more than others, but what can I say? I'm still working on it.)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Fall Semester 2010</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</span><br />
Second semester was just as fun as the first though, even though we had 2 brunettes and and a red head move in... haha just kidding.. Chels, Meagan, and Betsy are all really cute and really fun girls. We had just as many laughs if not more than the first semester. We all because really close, especially the last couple months of school. <br />

</div>Out of everything this last year, I think my favorite thing was the quote wall... I know very typical of a girls apartment, especially at BYU to have a quote wall, but I honestly have to say that this thing made me laugh almost every time I walked past it (which was a lot considering it was in our kitchen.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mFLFN44ZFJQ/TbzrMcg1ZZI/AAAAAAAAAHA/81XZG64RNsc/s1600/IMG_0466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mFLFN44ZFJQ/TbzrMcg1ZZI/AAAAAAAAAHA/81XZG64RNsc/s320/IMG_0466.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Our Lovely Quote Wall</span></div><div style="text-align: left;">Don't you just love how it is brightly colored too? We honestly anticipated that the whole wall would be covered, floor to ceiling after just the first semester and that we would have to find another wall to stick all of our quotes on. I honestly believe that someone said something or something happened that was deserving of the quote wall at least every other day if not every day. We just got busy and didn't have enough time to write all of them down. In fact the majority of the ones up on the wall were from the first month or two of fall semester. We did add a few more second semester, but not nearly as many. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">A Few of My Favorite Quotes</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "I am pissed on!" - Amy</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "HOW-OLD-WERE-YOU-WHEN-YOUR-MOM-HAD-YOU! </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> -Kelsee</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - Kyleigh: "Amy, did you turn off your cochlear implant?"</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> Amy: "No, did you?"</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "You can always tell when she gets sleepy because her</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> eyebrows get all pointy!" -Chelsea</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "I need to write this on the tablets of my heart!!" -Jayci</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "Her doesn't." -Chelsea </span>(Chels' Okie hick slang comin out... haha jk)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "I've locked myself in the bathroom!" -Kelsee</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "It's a good thing Betsy doesn't ask me for help with her</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> English!" -Meagan </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "I love the stuffed animal museum up on campus!" -Heather W</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "I struggle in classes I have to use my body to get a good </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> grade!" -Kyleigh</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> - "Is there something on my neck?" -Heather R </span></div><div style="text-align: center;">(Here's a picture for this last one)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">Heather R turned to me half way through a fireside by Elder Packer in the Marriott Center and asked "Is there something on my neck." It was everything I could do to try to hold in my laughter. She had been tickling her neck and arm with her sharpie pen for quite some time when she realized the cap was off! :D </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">It's memories like this that I'll always look back on! Thank you so much girls from apartment 118 for an awesome semester full of fun and laughter. I will miss you all! </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I was a little worried because the weekend we decided on and that worked for all of us, was the weekend of the last week of classes, just before finals began. I found out that it was definitely what I needed. We left early Friday morning, went to the St. George temple later that afternoon, went for frozen yogurt afterwards, and went site seeing up in a canyon. I have to admit the temple was probably my favorite part for the day. It was rather entertaining watching Chelsea trying to teach this temple worker how to "pound it" (might I add he is was like 80 years old!) LOL I laughed so hard!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zwRjdegm3Dc/Tbx7uyTXcCI/AAAAAAAAAGg/reA6OqGDg8c/s1600/208148_10150164251586761_672486760_7114766_7053702_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zwRjdegm3Dc/Tbx7uyTXcCI/AAAAAAAAAGg/reA6OqGDg8c/s320/208148_10150164251586761_672486760_7114766_7053702_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Later that night we ended up watching Tangled with Kyleigh's family and her super cute little cousin! After the movie she started playing with some plastic Easter eggs and Chels and I joined in and ended up with this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pYTxEqqlZ4w/Tbx8VmZyPSI/AAAAAAAAAGk/KxX5KSv46oM/s1600/IMG_0419.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pYTxEqqlZ4w/Tbx8VmZyPSI/AAAAAAAAAGk/KxX5KSv46oM/s320/IMG_0419.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The next day we went shopping at the outlet mall. There were some really cool shops and I am proud to say I didn't spend too much money! I also got to go to lunch with my older brother Ryan who lives in St. George. It was good to see him, especially since I hadn't seen him in over a year. Later that afternoon we went joyriding in Kyleigh's Jeep. It had been raining quite a bit, so we were hoping to go muddin, but sadly it wasn't all that muddy. We still had a blast though!<br />

Sunday we went to church with Kyleigh's family and they have such a nice ward, not to mention this little priest who had the hots for Amy. HAHA it was rather funny, he tried saying something to her in sign language that Kyleigh's brother had taught him... and that was "Amy you are beautiful." I rather enjoyed watching him stare at Amy during sacrament meeting.<br />

Later that night, after an amazing dinner that Kyleigh's parents prepared for us, we headed back to Provo, ready to take on the last few days of classes for the semester and last day as roommates.KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-56010893640486067462011-04-12T08:35:00.000-07:002011-04-12T08:35:38.301-07:00<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">So for conference this spring, I was super excited to hear all of the messages.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was privileged to actually go to the conference center for 2 sessions.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I woke up super early and got ready and my friend Lance and I headed our drive to Salt Lake.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We didn’t even have tickets for either session when we first made the plans to go to both sessions of conference for the day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As we were headed down to Lance’s super sweet mint green jeep he informed me that he had pulled some strings and gotten us some tickets.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His aunt had a couple of extra tickets for the afternoon session, so if we couldn’t find tickets for the morning session we would at least have tickets for the afternoon session.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our plan was to hopefully get tickets through standby or by simply asking people if they had extra tickets to spare.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">It was rather funny to see that all the other cars out on the freeway at 7 AM all had drivers who were dressed in their Sunday best headed to Salt Lake.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Sadly, when we were about half way to Salt Lake, we got a call from Lance’s aunt who had the extra tickets and she said that she didn’t have 2 extra tickets for us anymore but just one, she had miscalculated.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We were kinda bummed cuz we were back to square one with finding tickets for both sessions but we did end up getting a really awesome parking spot thanks to Lance’s uncle who had an extra parking pass.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After we found our parking spot we walked up to the conference center to scout out tickets, in the process we saw about 7 other people from our ward who were doing the same.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They offered us their sign they had made after they got tickets.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We were probably only standing there for literally 2 minutes without holding the sign up or anything, when this really nice man came up to us and asked us if we needed tickets.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Of course we said YES!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We thanked him and looked at the tickets to find out where we were sitting so we could go find our seats before conference started.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>THEY WERE IN THE TERRACE!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was expecting to get tickets that were in the balcony, but we were super lucky and got seats in the terrace pretty close to the main floor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">The talks during the first session were AMAZING!!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After the first session was over we headed back to Lance’s minty green jeep to get out lunch he had packed us and find a place to sit.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We found a nice patch of grass just outside of temple square and sat down and started eating our lunch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>About half way through our lunch, this girl comes up to us and asks us if she can take our picture.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We looked kinda confused but we of course agreed.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So we were thinking that she was going to pull out like a Canon or Nikon out of her pocket and just snap and shot, but this legit guy gets out of this car with this very expensive camera equipment and sets up to take our picture.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We thought it was a little odd at first, but soon after they snapped our picture we realized that they could have been photographers from the ENSIGN!!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How cool would that be!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So then of course we joked with each other saying how we were just going to have to wait and see in a month after the conference issue of the Ensign came out.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QcU1rJXy49I/TaRws8Za32I/AAAAAAAAAGA/CRmuCqOxC8o/s1600/IMG_0384.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QcU1rJXy49I/TaRws8Za32I/AAAAAAAAAGA/CRmuCqOxC8o/s320/IMG_0384.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><o:p><br />
</o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><o:p><br />
</o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">After we finished our lunch we sat on the grass just talking. We still hadn’t found tickets for the afternoon session but Lance’s aunt still had one ticket from one of her friends we just needed to find one more ticket.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I got a text message from one of my friends from back home asking me if I needed an extra ticket. CAN YOU SAY DIVINE INSPIRATION!! AMAZING!!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Of course I took him up on his offer and planned to meet up with him and get my ticket.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Lance and I went to go find the lady who had his ticket.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was still waiting to get my ticket but I called my friend to ask him what door and what section.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I look at Lance’s ticket to compare, his was Door 19, Terrace, Section F. My friend said our tickets were for DOOR 19, TERRACE, SECTION F!! K, I love when things work out perfectly but now I felt so blessed I was almost getting freaked out by how perfect things had been going that day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So I got my ticket and the 3 of us ended up sitting next to each other.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><o:p><br />
</o:p></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AYHZL5XgMyU/TaRxKfriyLI/AAAAAAAAAGE/b8dTrJoOqHQ/s1600/IMG_0387.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AYHZL5XgMyU/TaRxKfriyLI/AAAAAAAAAGE/b8dTrJoOqHQ/s320/IMG_0387.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><o:p><br />
</o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">The second session was just as good as the first, if not better.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As we were leaving the conference center we were up on top of the building when my roommate called me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She and her friend also had tickets to the afternoon session and I was meeting up with her to get a ride home because Lance was staying to go to the priesthood session later that night.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I asked her where she was and she told me that they didn’t make it into the conference center in time and had to watch it in the tabernacle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I remember she had this bright green cardigan she sometimes wore and I totally saw her from on top of the conference center all the way to the tabernacle – yes it was rather bright! I met up with Chels and rode home and hurried to work.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">This year’s general was awesome!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I absolutely loved all of the talks that were given.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They inspired me to do better and to be a better person!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There are so many things I learned I need to work on and improve in my life.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-59871222632008245272011-03-29T17:25:00.000-07:002011-04-02T23:33:40.369-07:00Housing Hunt<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">So for over 2 months I have been searching, no correction, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">hunting</span> for a place to live for next Fall/Winter. I had planned to get a head start and begin my search all the way back in January. I had been studying the BYU Housing Guide probably more than books for my classes. I also was constantly browsing sites online trying to find a cute, fairly priced, with a touch-of-home look condo or apartment to live in for just next fall/winter. Most condos and apartments that fit this description are all south of campus, are rather expensive, and make you sign a full year contract which leaves you to try to sell it if you leave during the Spring/Summer term. I didn't want to get stuck in that rut of trying to sell a contract. I found this small women's condo complex that was fairly priced and only housed 3 girls. My roommate Amy and I went over and had a look at a couple of the condos there and fell in love with them! They were so cute and the girls told us they had just signed a fall/winter contract! It was like an answer to our prayers. Amy and I went to go sign the contract a few days later and had all of the paperwork nearly filled out when I noticed that the contract date said August 2011 to August 2012. I asked the guy about it and he said that he wouldn't be able to change it and that we had to sign a full year if we wanted the condo. Amy and I didn't feel good about it, so we decided to pass and keep looking.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">One day I was talking to one of the girls at work about my housing frustrations. She had just come back from a study abroad in China for 6 months and told me that she lived in this cute little townhouse a few blocks south of campus and that two of her roommates were graduating and moving out and that her landlord was super cool and would probably sign us for just fall/winter if that's what we wanted. I dropped by to see her condo and fell in love with it! It was super cute! It was blue on the outside and had a balcony. It had 3 levels and everyone had their own parking space! Amy went with me a week later and told me that she loved it too, so we called the landlord and asked to set up a time we could meet with him. A couple weeks went by and we didn't hear back from him so I gave him a call. He said that before he signed us that he was waiting for one of the girls who was moving out to get her acceptance letter to graduate school. My friend came to work a week later and told me that her roommate didn't get into grad school and had decided to stay. I was super bummed, but continued my housing hunt. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">A couple weeks after that my friend Alisa called me and left a message on my phone that she had exciting news to tell me. I had been trying to get Alisa to come live with us, but she is graduating in August and said she was moving home for next year to hopefully find a job. I called her back later that night after getting her message and she told me that she had changed her mind and wanted to live with me and Amy next year. She was going to look for a teaching job down here somewhere close in Utah Valley. I was so excited! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">With my wonderful roommate Kyleigh graduating in August and moving home for next Fall I wasn't sure who I wanted to live with and had thought about flying solo and living with girls I didn't know. This idea kinda scared me and I didn't really feel comfortable with it. That's when my roommate Chelsea told me that we should live together next year and we started looking for housing. Then I thought of Amy my cute little roommate who always make you laugh. I wanted her to come live with us too. So we were going to sign together, but things didn't work out to where we could. So it was just Amy and I hunting for housing again. I had always had my friend Alisa in the back of my mind even after she told me that she wasn't going to be living here next fall. </span><br />

</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Well I can say that after 2 months of searching for housing and having nothing work, I can say that Alisa, Amy, and I have officially signed a contract and will be living together in this cute little condo for next fall/winter ( the funny thing is this apartment is in the same complex Amy and I had originally wanted to sign, it was just 2 floors up! :P )</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I remember feeling so frustrated a few weeks ago because I didn't know where I was going to live next year and things just didn't seem to be working out. But a heavy weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and I can honestly say that I believe there was a reason that things didn't work out for the longest time and now that they have. What that reason is, I'm not sure but I know there is a purpose for everything. :D </span>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1191333911973297747.post-1289142600290622612011-03-29T16:49:00.000-07:002011-04-02T23:34:59.392-07:00| Festival of Colors |<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">So this last weekend, my roommates and a few friend from my ward were able to go to the Festival of Colors in Spanish Fork. I had heard about it last year, of course only after seeing all of the pictures on facebook. I made it a goal to go this year. We decided to head down there early and ended up getting there a little after 11. Because it was so busy, we parked in town and had to walk almost a mile to the Krishna temple and we made it there barely after the 11 o'clock throwing. They had schedule to do a big color throw/cloud every two hours. So we had to wait two more hours before the next throwing. We still had tons of fun throwing colored chalk all over each other and getting all "colorful." There were a few bands who played but the music was definitely something I wasn't used to, but it was still fun to be in a big crowd of people throwing color everywhere. I was so scared that my hair was going to be dyed for work later than night, but thankfully I was able to brush most of the color out before I washed it so that it didn't dye my hair too much. </span><br />

Well this is not the case for my articulation and phonology class. Of course articulating means speaking and phonology is the study of hearing and speech sounds, so naturally we do a lot of experimentation with making different noises. My phonetics class last semester was the same way, experimenting with finding different ways to make different sounds in your mouth. In class, when we discuss these different sounds, you can always hear over half of the class imitating the sound. I always find it rather entertaining.</span><br />
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What makes me smile and laugh the most, is when I'm in the testing center and taking a test that testing my knowledge of the articulation of certain sounds. I try to be as quiet as possible when I make the sounds and try to figure out the question, but I always get a few people who glance over their shoulder and give me weird looks. It's rather entertaining I must admit! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Last class for articulation and phonology, our teacher taught us how to talk with a lisp. Of course this was so that we could understand how to correct a lisp, but I thought it was pretty funny when my teacher talked for a majority of the remainder of class with a lisp. I love my major! :D </span></div>KeLsEehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16450312763018087363noreply@blogger.com0
